Testimonials from Lord's Taverners Beneficiaries

Retired England international cricketer Jenny Gunn MBE was on hand to present Ash Lea School, Nottingham, a new nine seater minibus on behalf of the Lord’s Taverners.

Head teacher Dawn Wigley spoke of the importance to Ash Lea School pupils of being able to easily access their community “Within school, they can appear very confident because they’re well supported by their environment, but as soon as you take them out of that, challenges then occur, so it’s really important that we give them as many opportunities as we can outside of the school.”

At a Lords event, Shane Warne watched over 80 disabled young people in six teams from the London area take part in a day of fun and competitive cricket. On its conclusion he presented the trophy to the winning team.

Adam, a participant from Hackney Super 1s who won the Spirit of Cricket award, said “Inside, it makes me feel very happy but very determined to win. It’s something you can look forward to and something you can actually hang on to.”

Aiden, who attends the Newham Super 1s hub added, “When I go to my club, there’s other disabled young people there so I can talk to them and speak how they’re doing, stuff like that and play sports with them.”

Star of The Chase, Anne Hegerty, presented Tameside College with a new wheelchair accessible minibus.

Sports Development Lead at Tameside College, Luke Podmore, said: "The minibus will enhance our curriculum dramatically. It will provide the colleges aspirations department with a number of opportunities that they were not able to even explore before this. We would like to thank the Lord’s Taverners charity once again for giving us this amazing opportunity."
